In a country known for its beauty, both natural and human, it seems that even to the convicted killer of Brazil are pleasing to the eye.

A prison in Recife, a city in the state of Pernambuco, recently held its first contest ‘Miss Prison’ to join a growing list of world beauty contests behind bars.

“It’s flattering that people think I’m beautiful,” said the winner of ‘Miss Prison’ 2011, Rhyasa usually Guedesin, a convicted murderer 19 years of age.

“I have a boyfriend right now,” said Guedesin, who maintained his innocence even though he is serving a life sentence for his crime.

“I’m focused on getting out of here. I’ve never killed anyone, so I’m back to my normal life and not too distant future.”

Twelve contestants were judged on beauty, general knowledge and history of good behavior. The first prize includes about $ 1.000 in cash for deposit in the bank account of the winner in prison.

“It was a real thrill to be applauded by the other inmates and guards,” he said after his victory Guedesin. “Unfortunately the dress has to go now and I have to return to the routine of prison.”

The Brazilian Ministry of Social Development and Human Resources launched the contest in the prison system best known for his terrible brutality.

In a recent case report, a 15-year-old was detained in a cell where she was raped and tortured for a month by 20 men.

According to the Ministry of Justice of Brazil, 40 percent of inmates are in prison for drug trafficking and 21 percent for robbery.

“Miss Prison” is the last competition held in a growing trend. Beauty contests have also been held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, as well as Russia, Colombia and Lithuania.

The winner of “Miss Spring” which took place in a Siberian prison for women only, known as UF 91 / 9, was awarded an early release if she won the contest.

Meanwhile, participants of the contest ‘Miss Captivity’, held in a prison in Lithuania, were forced to participate in the parade in a bathing suit and had to wear designer dresses and wedding fashion.

For its part, the contest of “Miss Prisoner ‘Talavera Bruce prison in Rio de Janeiro is part of the administration’s efforts to reinvent the institution for its notorious prison system.
